From the recording I Am Not Hamas (Song for Gaza)
I have written this song in solidarity with calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, an end to the occupation, and to raise funds for humanitarian aid and animal rescue in Gaza. The ongoing retaliatory attack on Gaza by the Israeli government will go down in history as one of the lowest points in humanity. This is clearly an ongoing genocide of the Palestinians and a humanitarian issue of catastrophic proportion and injustice that is being manipulated by politics and international allegiances. The unprecedented, disproportionate and indiscriminate massacre and maiming of Palestinians and other civilians in Gaza by Israel, the destruction of their homes, hospitals, schools, places of worship, businesses, infrastructure, their animals and environment cannot by justified. My feelings of helplessness, anger, horror, shock, grief and disbelief culminated in this song.
Lyrics
I Am Not Hamas (Song for Gaza) (music and lyrics by Nicolette Aubourg)
I am not Hamas.
I am a father who had a son.
I could not save him from the bombs.
I am not Hamas.
I am a mother with my dead child
I hold forever in my mind.
I am not Hamas.
I am a daughter who once was loved
by my family who are gone.
I am not Hamas.
I am a doctor from afar
who came to help the sick and broken.
Now the streets are crying with our blood
And the buildings fall to the sounds of war
But I am not Hamas.
I am not Hamas.
I am a tree who used to shade
the people passing in the street.
I am not Hamas.
I am a school where children laughed
and studied for a better life.
I am not Hamas.
I am a rescuer of animals
that have no water, food or love.
I am not Hamas.
I am a dog whose legs were crushed
when the buildings fell on us.
Now the streets are crying with our blood
And the buildings fall to the sounds of war
But I am not Hamas.
I am not Hamas.
I am a thousand refugees
under the rubble in the camp.
I am not Hamas.
I am a baby who is placed in bags.
I never blamed or harmed anyone.
I am not Hamas.
I am a hospital that values life
and dignifies the ones who die.
I am not Hamas.
I am a journalist who shows the world
the images unspeakable.
Now the streets are crying with our blood
And the buildings fall to the sounds of war
But I am not Hamas.
